I can’t say that I’ll be getting a ton more of this stuff on the regular, but I’ll gladly finish off the couple of bottles I have. I know there’s really not a ton of watermelon sodas out there, so for those that do enjoy watermelon flavor, this addition will I’m sure be very welcome. As I say, watermelon isn’t necessarily a favorite flavor of mine, but I do enjoy a good, but rare, watermelon candy. I think they maybe could’ve added a liiiiiiiiittle more flavoring in there to really make this one explode, but I can see why maybe they wouldn’t. But PepsiCo seems to have held back a little on this one. And as I mentioned in the Watermelon Shock review, artificially flavored watermelon can get powerful very quickly. Watermelon (like, actual watermelon) is a fairly subtle flavor in and of itself.

The full flavor of watermelon actually takes a small moment to really come in. I still got plenty of flavor and a bit of a Dew kick, but it wasn’t a full-on, 3-step-into-it kick, but just a good, solid front-kick. When I pop a watermelon Jolly Rancher in my mouth, I also get a pretty heavy hit of watermelon flavor. It’s my favorite soda, let alone my favorite Dew, and when I take that first sip of it, it really gives you a full kick of cherry flavor. So, let’s get to actually trying this one, eh? Obviously, I shouldn’t get that here, as this isn’t the Diet version of the soda (which they do make and I do plan on trying as well). Also, there was a lot of aspertame taste to it. I did a review of it (follow the link to check it out) and found it to not be as powerful as I was expecting. Not so long ago, they came out with Mountain Dew Amp Game Fuel Zero Charged Watermelon Shock (that’s a mouthful). Now, I should mention that this isn’t the first watermelon Dew from PepsiCo in the recent past.

A good watermelon tends to be a bit more red inside, but pink generally has come to be considered the color for artificial watermelon. Also, as-expected (since we got this in a clear bottle, so the color isn’t exactly a surprise), the soda is pink (no, no, mate. I wonder if that will translate to the taste. Though, I have to say that it’s a bit more subdued than I was expecting. Anyway, as-expected, the scent is a match to what I remember for watermelon Jolly Ranchers. My Howie’s glass courtesy of The Whiteboard. But, before I can taste it, I need to get to the pour.Īaah. But, if I had to make a guess as to what this soda will taste like, it’d be that: a watermelon Jolly Rancher. The only place I can really think of having artificial watermelon flavor with any real regularity is with Jolly Ranchers, and I’ve not had a Jolly Rancher in probably a year or so. But as with most things artificially-flavored, the actual flavor of something and the fake flavor of something are not generally all that close together. I do love actual watermelon (though the texture has to be just right on them, for me). I can’t say that watermelon is necessarily a favorite flavor of mine. However, the intrepid Andifox managed to snag some for me and delivered them yesterday. However, my own Kroger seemed to be lacking last time I went. I had friends reporting a couple weeks ago that they were seeing it out in the wild. It’s a new non-limited edition Dew that’s watermelon flavored. However, one that did show up as-promised was Major Melon early this year. I’d hoped to be here sometime over the holidays, as it was reported that there was going to be a gingerbread Dew at some point in December, but it never showed up.
